Experimenting with watercolour

Experimenting with watercolour...

I HAVE DONE 2 DRAWINGS USING MY SET OF WATERCOLOUR PENCILS - ONE IS OF VANCOUVER FROM ABOVE AND THE OTHER IS OF A PALM TREE.

I have used water, the pencils and I used my fingers to mix the colours together, in order to create a blend-effect.

Vancouver from above.

Using the colours blue, green, yellow, red and pink, I managed to make a detailed watercolour drawing of Vancouver.

As you can see, there is a clear difference between the water, land and city environments - the sky is lighter and more patchy, to show the clouds. At the city, there is bridges, arenas, parks, skyscrapers and intersections - I used pink to make the gray hue of the smoggy city.

In addition, you can also make out the change in texture and colour between the beach and the water of the river.

Here is the image, from Google.com, that the piece is based on;
Helicopter flights: Helicopter Flight in Vancouver: Private flight ...
To conclude, this drawing is part of my 'Humans and the Environment' topic as it is showing the relationship between the people (in this case the city) and the country (with the mountains and wilderness in the background).

Palm tree.

This is a simple watercolour piece of a palm tree and has less meaning than the previous Vancouver drawing.

The tone and shading is most noticeable in the trunk of the tree and the blades of the leaves. You can also make out the sea/ocean in the background and the sky is more visible towards the top, as well as the sun.

I even added the glare of the sun - the beams cut through the actual palm blades.

This palm tree would most likely be in a tropical/warm location - it is not based off of any particular images (first hand or second hand) and was just a spontaneous piece.
