*All of the rights to the work I am about to show go to the original artists, I took these photos at the ‘Reina Sofia Arte Nacional’ in Central Madrid, Spain.
This is a quick contact sheet of some foreign artwork and artists/exhibitions from Spain.
I am not focusing on the exact artists that I have chosen in my PI or going to reference them in this post, but here is some of the artwork which was on display (which I think support my ‘Humans and the Environment’ topic for Year 13).
For instance, the sculpture of the man shows emotion, aging and experience. The wrinkles and facial expression is one that has a realistic appearance, almost like it has a ‘soul’. Compared the the second photo, which is mainly to show talent.
Paintings and Oil Paintings-
These show a great amount of precision in the way that there is different textures and environments.
You can see the different views and styles within each piece here - there are landscapes, people of different religions etc. which show diversity and also the effects on the environment.
The portrait of the couple is colourful to show an emotion of comfort and happiness to show how they feel with one another. This and their appearance show a real human relationship through art.
Dark/Older Artwork (Showing times of struggle or despair)-
These pieces of art show darker times than the rest. They show working class people in working class areas - the less colorful appearance and mono theme in the second picture clearly shows the emotion the artist was feeling here.
The twisted shapes may reflect a person with dark experiences and mental health issues - the crowds appear to be in a dark mental place as well, just the overall style they have been portrayed in makes the viewer feel that way.
The first piece is less realistic and shows someone’s inner thoughts - the cartoon graphic style and distorted facial features show human emotion in an ‘extreme’ way.
Excellent analysis Tom, well done.
ReplyDeleteLets hope these ideas and some concepts flow through and influence your artworks and the colour flows through too. Keep on with this depth of thinking.
